About Us

Shady Hill Clayworks creates unique, one-of-a-kind clay artwork to display in your home and garden.

Nature is our primary source inspiration. Some designs are created using actual leaves and wood from the beautiful woodlands of eastern Pennsylvania. Inspired by Edward Weston, some textures in the stoneware are locally grown produce, found at food co-ops and farmer's markets.

Clayworks are first created from stoneware or porcelain using a variety of techniques including shaping on a potter's wheel (wheel throwing), hand building and sculpting. After an initial kiln firing to mature the piece, the clayworks are finished using several techniques. Some pieces are finished using traditional glazing techniques while others are subject to an additional low temperature firing in sawdust to create random carbonization patterns burnt into the works.

Because our works are one-of-a-kind, we can create a unique claywork based on your design. If you have a design in mind, please call us at 1-610-566-1394 or contact us at info@shadyhillclayworks.com. By commissioning a piece from us, we invite you to experience the inspiration that drives us to create unique, one-of-a-kind clayworks.
